What a dirty coil actually costs you

A fouled evaporator coil does not fail loudly. It just gets more expensive. Airflow drops across the fin pack. Coil temperature falls. Moisture that should drain instead freezes, then thaws into the pan at once. Pans in Auburndale closet-mounted air handlers sit directly above drywall. Algae blocks the drain. The pan overflows.
